The information system on a corporate server and/or user workstations can store and process confidential and sensitive information (databases, file archives, business applications and their data) that requires special protection. Besides, the workstations of mobile users are subject to the threat of loss or portable computer theft, or the hard disk, and disclosure of information stored on it. The same threat exists for removable information carriers if data critical to loss and disclosure must be stored on them.
To secure critical data from unauthorized reviewing and theft, special means for encoding and enhanced user authentication during access must be in place. These means are installed directly on the server or workstation to be protected, and allow not only to encode sensitive information, but also to conceal its presence from unauthorized users. For this, several information warehouses can be organized, part of which can be protected by encoding and concealed from unauthorized persons. For data stored on servers, permission or denial of network access to encoded partitions is also provided.
Only an authorized user having access attributes and an encoding key has the right to decode information on protected disks, disk partitions and removable carriers. If a malicious user will get hold of critical information access attributes, the efficient response will be sending an alert signal to initiate switch-off of protected disks, deletion of all configuration data and key information. After this, access to information shall be possible only by using the backup copies of these attributes.
