The aim of the project is to improve the performance, reliability and security of the bank's IT infrastructure.
The Bank's IT Infrastructure Development Department was tasked with building a dedicated server farm module that combines server capacities at two spatially spaced Platinum Bank sites. It should provide a bandwidth between sites of 20 Gbps and server connections at speeds up to 10 Gbps.
One of the most important requirements for the project was to ensure the fault-tolerant operation of network and server equipment on each of the sites.
The immediate implementation of the solution was preceded by the careful development of the work project by the VERNA engineering team.
The key points of the developed project are:
• analysis of the network infrastructure of the core module of the corporate network;
• development of a new topology for connecting Cisco Nexus switches to the current core topology of the corporate network;
• selection of current network technologies, according to which devices will be configured;
• creation of a migration plan for new equipment with minimal downtime of the network and all services of the Bank.
Two Cisco Nexus 5548UP switches are installed on the Bank's territorially spaced sites. Cisco subsidiary switches are connected to each of the four Cisco Nexus 5548UP switches using FEX technology in the form of external interface boards: Nexus 2248TP-E (for connection of stable servers on channels 1 GB Bit/s) and Nexus B22HP-P (to connect HP blade chassis via 10Gbps channels).
The use of Cisco Fabric Extender (FEX) has significantly reduced the number of control points. The backup of all key switches, their operation in active/active mode and the duplication of the main communication lines ensure high failure rates of the server farm.
The use of Virtual Port Channel (VPC) technology allowed full use of available computing resources, high availability of services, fast convergence in case of failure of the communication channel or active network equipment, data balancing in active/active mode.
VERNA specialists together with Bank employees built a dedicated server farm module based on Cisco Nexus switches.
During the implementation of the project, Cisco Nexus network equipment was installed and configured, and accompanying technical documentation was developed. Implementation work is carried out at a high level and on schedule with minimal downtime of the network and all services of the Bank.
As a result of the project, a separate module “server farm” was created. The bandwidth for business-critical applications of the Bank has increased, the failure resistance of server sites has increased. The implemented solution is designed to protect investments in technical capabilities for the next 5-6 years, taking into account the development of the Bank.
During 2012—13, VERNA completed work on the construction of a dedicated server farm module that combines server capacities at two geographically dispersed Platinum Bank sites and provides throughput at 20 Gbps and server connectivity up to 10 Gbps.

As a result of the implementation of the project, the bandwidth for business-critical applications of the Bank has increased, and the failure resistance of server sites has increased. The implemented solution is designed to protect investments in technical capabilities for the next 5-6 years, taking into account the development of the Bank.
