To ensure the smooth operation of the WMS warehouse management system, our customer needed to cover the warehouse and part of the production premises with a reliable and productive Wi-Fi network.
•provided uninterrupted support of applications of an automated warehouse management system;
•supported IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ac standards;
•provided seamless roaming.
During the design of the solution, our engineers encountered several production features.
The first of them was such that the assortment of products is constantly changing in the warehouse on the shelves, which in turn leads to a constant change in the radio environment. For example, plastic goods are transparent to radio waves, and metal products are not transparent and shield the radio signal.
Another is the presence in the warehouse of a large number of metal structures. Among them are shelving, shelves, walls with metal upholstery, a metal roof that causes wave interference and other features.
Features of the customer's production warehouses required increased technical characteristics from access points. Wireless access points with a good antenna module, high power and with dual polarization support should be used in the warehouse. They must be able to manage interference and minimize it.
To achieve the specified parameters of the WiFi network, VERNA experts suggested using wireless access devices manufactured by Cisco. For installation in normal climatic conditions, Cisco Aironet 1850 series access points with 4x4 MIMO scheme and four spatial streams supporting the IEEE 802 standard were used.
We used Cisco Aironet 1530 series access points for areas at risk of high humidity and negative temperatures.
The “seamless” network and dynamic control of access point parameters were provided by two Cisco CT3504 hardware controllers. Controllers were combined into a common cluster in order to increase failure resistance as a whole.
We calculated the optimal placement of access points using a software and hardware complex based on TamoGraph Site Survey software.
To do this, VERNA engineers performed radio planing, which is a visualization that shows a map of the distribution of the signal level measured in dBm.
In order to confirm the achievement of the declared conditions after the installation of equipment and the implementation of commissioning works, radio reconnaissance was additionally carried out.
Also, within the framework of the project, VERNA carried out work on the expansion of the customer's network infrastructure.
The construction of the WiFi network in the warehouse and the implementation of the WMS system made it possible to minimize the human factor, increase the bandwidth of the warehouse and products on it and simplify the work with customers, as well as attract new partners.
