The urgency of the audit and optimization of the IT infrastructure was due to the complication of the enterprise's business processes. At a certain stage of development, the customer needed to decide on options for geographical and functional expansion of the information system. The growth of the hardware and software fleet required the application of modern approaches and technologies to improve the efficiency and manageability of IT infrastructure. VERNA was chosen as a consultant for the implementation of the project.
• The customer wanted the information system to become part of the main business process and be linked to the economy of the enterprise.
• It was necessary to develop the concept of IT infrastructure management and substantiation of its development plan.
For the first time in Ukraine, the project used the Microsoft Infrastructure Optimization Model (IOM), developed on the basis of world best practices. The IOM model was applied to evaluate the technical capabilities and commercial value of the customer's IT infrastructure.
The work was carried out in two stages:
• Audit of the IT infrastructure, which included an assessment of the physical composition and logical structure of the information system (servers, workstations, accounts, software), IT infrastructure maintenance technologies and security methods.
• Development of a development plan that provides for the gradual transition of the IT infrastructure to the next level of maturity. This includes increased security, hardware and software configuration monitoring, license management, policy enforcement when working with partners, service providers and IT product vendors.
• The maturity level of the customer's IT infrastructure was assessed according to the IOM model on a four-level scale.
• Basic evaluation criteria: network management, identity management, device management, backup and recovery, security and organization of IT processes.
• Identified critical business risks related to IT.
•Developed security policy-based hardware and software fleet management principles and procedures.
• According to the IOM model, the customer is offered a measurable perspective for the development of the IT infrastructure, which will make the IT system more secure, transparent and predictable in management.
• Based on the results of the audit, a phased optimization of the IT infrastructure was developed and substantiated. This allows the customer to view IT costs as an investment in efficiency rather than as a risky expense.
• Consistent application of the Microsoft IOM methodology contributes to the transformation of the customer's IT system from a cost structure to a strategic asset of the enterprise.
